Katy Perry in daredevil Olympics video

She is well known for being the princess of pop but Katy Perry now seems to be taking on a whole different persona in her new music video. The singing sensation released a teaser of her new video on social media which showed the star gasping for air as she came to the surface of a lake after landing there in a dramatic parachute jump.

The new video is for her new single, Rise, which is already storming the Twitter and Billboard charts, despite the fact that it is yet to be officially released. The video was accompanied by the caption ‘Soon, I will #RISE’. Perry aptly described the song when she said that ‘this is a song that’s been brewing inside me for years, that has finally come to the surface.’ Adding ‘I was inspired to finish it now, rather than save it for my next album, because now more than ever, there is a need for our world to unite.’

The song will be released to celebrate the Rio Olympics which are to begin in two weeks time in Brazil, despite the fact that they have been clouded by several delays and security alerts. Speaking of the Olympics the singer added ‘I hope this song can inspire us to heal, unite, and rise together. I am honored that NBC Olympics has chosen to use it as an anthem before and during the Rio Games.’
