Gervais film opens to mixed reception

Ricky Gervais might be one of the funniest and most popular men in showbusiness but it seems that he is not above being criticised as his new film received a luke warm reception.

The movie named ‘The Life on the Road’ is a spin-off of the hugely popular series in the office. The series starred Gervais himself in the British version and was played by Steve Carrel in the US version. Some comment that the film was ‘excruciatingly brilliant’, while others were not so kind saying that it was a ‘slowly unfolding disappointment.’

The plot of the movie follows the main character who is now selling cleaning products by day but is also trying to make a career as a rock star. He then decided to take his band, called Foregone Conclusion, on the road.

Stephen Dalton of the Hollywood Reported said of the film ‘David Brent remains an enduring comic grotesque, but this sporadically amusing big-screen resurrection is more cash-in reunion tour than killer comeback album.’

It’s no surprise that the film has so far had a mixed reception, the transition of television to film is not an easy one, with many Hollywood remakes of small-screen favorites have not lived up to their original.
