Tom Hanks film set to open Telluride Film Festival

He is known for his roles in Forest Gump and The Davinci Code but it seems that Tom Hanks is set to take the movie world by storm once again with his role in the film about a US pilot who successfully landed a plane in the Hudson River. The film, titled Sully, is set to open at the Telluride Film Festival in Colorado on Friday.

The film tells the story of captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger saved the lives of 155 people when a US Airways plane suffered engine failure after it’s engine was hit  by a flock of geese over Manhattan. Sully landed the plane in the Hudson River, with passengers and crew suffering only minor injuries. The film, which is directed by Clint Eastwood, will cover the dramatic events and also the succeeding rise to fame of the pilot.

Hanks recently spoke of the negative press surrounding distrust of institutions and cited this story as one which proves we can still rely on those with authority. He said “In the political atmosphere we’re in, there are an awful lot of points being made on [the notion that] you can’t count on people and institutions because they’re all broken — that none of them work. Well, that’s nonsense. They’re not all broken. And you can still have faith in them. And, in that regard, I think this movie makes a really strong case.”
