Baldwin speaks about daughter’s voicemail incident

Alec Baldwin has spoken about the voicemail incident that led to him having a permanent fallout with his daughter. The actor was speaking on Good Morning America saying that ‘It’s a scab that never heals cause it’s being picked at all the time by other people. My daughter, that’s hurt her in a permanent way.’

The incident he was speaking of occurred back in 2007. He called his daughter, Ireland, who was 7 at the time. When she didn’t answer the phone he left a voicemail calling her ‘a rude, thoughtless little pig’ before adding ‘you don’t have the brains or the decency as a human being.’ The call went on ‘I don’t give a damn that you’re 12 years old, or 11 years old, or that you’re a child, or that your mother is a thoughtless pain in the ass who doesn’t care about what you do as far as I’m concerned. Once again I have made an ass of myself trying to get to a phone. You have humiliated me for the last time with this phone.’

The call happened in the middle of a bitter divorce and custody battle between Baldwin and his ex-wife Kim Bassinger. It seems that Ireland and Baldwin are close these days, although Baldwin said the public will never let him forget the call and it is sometimes thrown back in his face.
