Zayn Malik has faced a backlash on social media after asking his millions of Twitter fans to donate money to help his mum’s friend with cancer treatment. People have criticised the singer after he pleaded with his supporters to donate some of the $120,000 she needs for treatment given that Malik himself is worth over $30 million.
However, his mum’s friend, who is suffering from lung cancer, has defended the singer saying that she would never accept the money from him. ‘Never, ever would I ask him for financial help in any way and I wouldn’t want it any other way.’ She went on to add that she simply asked him to raise awareness of her situation. ‘My request was for him to enlighten the public of my sad plight and he did exactly as I asked. So come on all you trolls, give him a break please and let’s just get on with the fundraising.’
The women in question, Ayesha, described the horror upon learning that she was suffering from the terminal condition back in 2015. ‘That’s when the words that no person ever wants to hear came, and that was: ‘You have cancer.’ She went on to explain that her only hope is to go to Istanbul to a particular clinic where they treat people with stage four cancer.
