Ed Sheeran quits Twitter

Ed Sheeran has announced that he is quitting the social media sit Twitter after receiving a stream of abuse online. The singer was speaking in an interview when he said that he can’t stand the things which people were saying. He told The Sun I’ve actually come off Twitter completely, I just can’t read it.’

He went on to say that he finds the network very negative and for that reason no longer wants to be on there. He said ‘I go on it and there’s nothing but people saying mean things. One comment ruins your day. But that’s why I’ve come off it.’ The British-born singer has 19 million followers and has said that he will keep the account open so that it gets automatic updates from his Instagram page.

A quick glance through his page and you can see a number of negative, if not necessarily, abuse comments. The singer is now one of the most popular artists in the world and his third album, Divide, has ben one fo the biggest hits of the year and has sold more than a million copies in the United Kingdom and over half a million in the United States.

Sheeran is not the first high-profile star to quit the social media site, Stephen Fry, Tom Daley, and Selena Gomez have all taken themselves off Twitter after receiving abuse online.
