Alec Baldwin wins Emmy for Donald Trump portrayal on SNL

It has become thee most famous impersonation on television and last night Alec Baldwin won an Emmy for his endless portrays of President Donald Trump on Saturday Night Live. The actor beat off competition from several excellent competitors including Tony Hale and Tituss Burgess from the hilarious Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

During his acceptance speech, the actor quipped ‘I suppose I should say at long last Mr. President, here is your Emmy.’ He also thanked his wife and joked that looking like Trump was an excellent form of contraception. ‘I wanna thank my wife, my wife and I had three children in three years and we didn’t have a child last year during the SNL season and I wonder if there’s a correlation there. All you men out there, you put that orange wig on, it’s birth control trust me.’

Baldwin, who has two previous Emmys to his name, gave an impassioned speech about the relevance of film and television. He reminded audiences that at the end of your life you don’t remember political events but TV shows, poems, movies and songs.

Host Stephen Colbert, who received a warm reception from the crowd in the room, was quick to make reference to Trump in his opening monologue. ‘If we’re honest with ourselves, the biggest TV star of the year is Donald Trump.’
