Over 20 allegations made against House of Cards actor Kevin Spacey

The Old Vic Theatre in London has said it has received 20 allegations of inappropriate behavior against the actor Kevin Spacey. The actor was the artistic director of theatre between 2004 and 2015 – most of the claims are said to have taken place in the period.

Those affected by Spaces said that felt ‘unable to raise concerns’ about Spacey due to his position within the organisation. They added that he ‘operated without sufficient accountability.’ The Old Vic has said that is it sorry for not creating an environment and culture in which people did not feel they could come forward to report what was happening.

This is the latest in a string of accusations made against the actor ranging from inappropriate behaviour to rape. None of the 20 claims made aginst the actor from the theatre, all of whom were men and 16 of which were former staff, made an allegation of rape. It is also reported that only one person formally raised it at the time.

The current creative director of the theatre, Matthew Warchus said he held a deep sympathy for those who came forward to report Spacey. He added ‘Everyone is entitled to work in an environment free from harassment and intimidation. The Old Vic is now actively engaged in the process of healing and the process of prevention.’

Since talk of Spacey’s behavior has surfaced he has been cut from the upcoming film All the Money in the World. Netflix has also announced that they will be dropping the series House of Cards in which the actor stars as the President of the United States.
