Time Magazine denies they offered ‘person of the year’ honour to President Trump

After Donald Trump claimed he rejected the opportunity to be named Time Magazine’s ‘Person of the Year’, the publication has come forward to slam the story saying it is categorically not true.

The President took to social media on Friday to say that he passed on the chance feature in the magazine’s notable person of the year spot. ‘Time Magazine called to say that I was PROBABLY going to be named “Man (Person) of the Year,” like last year, but I would have to agree to an interview and a major photo shoot. I said probably is no good and took a pass. Thanks anyway!’

However, Time Magazine was quick to criticise Trump saying that they never reveal the name of the individual until the publication date on 6th December. ‘The President is incorrect about how we choose Person of the Year. TIME does not comment on our choice until publication, which is December 6.’

This is not the first time that Trump has been involved in a social media conflict with Time. Back in 2015, he slammed them for choosing the German Chancellor Angela Merkel over him. ‘I told you @TIME Magazine would never pick me as a person of the year despite being the big favorite. They picked [the] person who is ruining Germany.’

Several reports have also surfaced that Trump has fake Time Magazine covers of himself hanging in several properties around the world. Faces which are purported to be in the running for the accolade this year include Ariana Grande, Serena Williams, and Taylor Swift.
