Yelchin’s parents to sue car company

The parents of Star Trek actor Anton Yelchin have spoken out for the first time since the star’s tragic death earlier this year. They broke down in tears as they emotionally described the ‘wrongful death’ of their son after he was crushed by his own car in his driveway at his California home. The family say that the car had significant defects which lead to their son’s death, though the actor’s official cause of death is accidental.

His parents have also said that they are set to sue the manufacturers, Fiat Chrysler, who make the car which caused their son’s death. The manufacturers recalled the car just weeks before Yelchin’s demise but the advice was only cautionary. He received a letter explaining how to fix his vehicle just a week after his death. The family’s lawyer said it was ‘way too little, way too late’.

Speaking at a news conference about the death their son, Anton’s father said ‘Anton was our only son and was a remarkable human being, he was very modest, very simple, very honest, generous, loving. It is wrong, it is against nature when parents bury (their) own child.’ His mother added ‘Anton never wanted anything for himself,’ his mother Irina added. ‘He never cared about being a star. He just loved movies, us, his friends and he loved life very, very much.’
