Bowie nominated for posthumous Mercury Prize Award

The world was in mourning earlier this year when David Bowie passed away in January at the age of just 69. However, he is not being forgotten by either his fans or critics. His last album, Blackstar, which was released just days before the Ziggy Stardust creator passed away has been nominated for the 25th Mercury Prize.

The last offering by Bowie, whose hits include Space Oddity and Life on Mars, is to face stiff competition by albums by artists Kano and Skepta. Other artists which have been included on the list include Laura Mulvey for her album The Dreaming Room and The 1975 for I Like it When You Sleep.

Bowie’s final album which included the line ‘look up here, I’m in heaven’ was thought to be his parting gift to his fans and the world before he sadly died earlier this year. Bowie was one of the most celebrated and influential singers of his generation and shot to fame in the 1970’s. He was known not just for his musical style but also for his visual presentation and several personalities which he played on stage.
