Hollywood actress Lindsay Lohan has claimed that she was the subject of racial profiling at Heathrow Airport in London. The Mean Girls star said that she was flying back to New York when she was stopped at London’s biggest transport hub. She said ‘when I was flying to New York recently. I was wearing a headscarf and I got stopped at the airport and was racially profiled for the first time in my life.’
According to Lohan, who was speaking on the British magazine show Good Morning Britain, the attendant was very forgiving once she saw the name in her passport – but she did request that the actress remove her headscarf before boarding the plane. Lohan was travelling from Turkey to New York, where she had been meeting with the country’s President.
Though Lohan said she wasn’t bothered by the event she did express her concern for other women ‘I mean it’s OK. But what scared me was that moment, how would another woman who doesn’t feel comfortable taking off her headscarf feel? That was really interesting to me. I was kind of in shock. I can’t speak for what the purpose of it was. But it was jarring. I got double checked until she realised. It was strange. It did [freak me out]. I’m from New York, born and raised. I was a little intimidated.’
