Tom Jones has spoken about the loss of his wife Linda in a moving interview with The Sunday Mirror. He revealed that in the weeks and months after the death of his wife Linda who died of cancer aged 75 work kept him going and gave him a reason to live.
After being encouraged to visit a therapist to help him with his grief he said that she also persuaded him to carry on and not give up. ‘She said to me, ‘You have got to carry on. If you don’t, you will die.’ He said that he had to think of his son, his daughter and his grandchildren to help him carry on.
He spoke about in the days and weeks following Linda’s passing he didn’t think he would be able to carry on, adding that some days he even struggled to get out of bed. Tom has said that he will work until he dies because ‘time off would be death for me.’ He admitted that he never takes extended periods off work because he is much happier when he is singing than when he is not.
Before Linda died she told Tom that it was her wish that he keep singing ‘Linda wanted me to keep singing, she said not to stop. She was a strong woman.’ Tom was on tour when he got the call to say that her cancer was terminal. He flew back to Los Angeles where Linda died a week later.
