It has been announced that Jude Law is set to play Albus Dumbledor in the new Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them sequel. The role was originally played by Richard Harris and then Michael Gambon in the Harry Potter franchise. Director David Yates spoke of his excitement on Law joining the cast. He said ‘Jude Law is a phenomenally talented actor whose work I have long admired, and I’m looking forward to finally having the opportunity to work with him.’
Toby Emmerich, chief content officer at Warner Bros said that he was thrilled that Law was joining the cast to play a character that is much loved by everybody. He continued ‘Jude has been a member of the Warner Bros. family for years and we’re excited to embark on this new adventure with him.’
The second Fantastic Beasts film will focus on the early life of wizard Albus Dumbledor and his years at Hogwarts long before the arrival of Harry, Hermione and Ron. While the news has just been announced to the public, it seems that author JK Rowling has been thinking of Jude Law for some time. In an interview last year she said ‘I have, of course, thought about this. I do have a name. I do have someone in mind, but I can’t say it.’
