Ledger’s family speak about his loss 10 years on

It has been almost 10 years since the Australian actor Heath Ledger passed away. A new documentary detailing the life of the Batman star is set to be released and his family and friends have spoken out ahead of its debut. His sister Kate said that his daughter Matilda is the actor’s biggest legacy and that she reminds the family of Heath every day. Ledger passed away in 2008 after taking an overdose at the age of 28. She said ‘I still feel very connected to Heath. I feel connected to him through his beautiful daughter Matilda.’

A close friend of Heath’s, Matt Amato, spoke about the demons that Ledger faced throughout his life, even after becoming a father. ‘While he was not able to be a father for long, and he struggled with his own demons towards the end of his life, he was the best father he could be.’ Speaking about Ledger’s incredible parenting abilities his friend said that he spoke about trying to connect with his daughter as much as possible. ‘He was a natural, he knew what to do with a baby right away.’

Another friend also spoke about the fact that Ledger thought that he would die young. He said that Ledger confided in him about his fears. ‘I don’t feel like I have much time. I just don’t think I’m going to be around that long. I don’t know why. Just gotta get things done now.’
