It’s been a fantastic year for Beyonce so far. After announcing to the world that she is expecting twins this summer she has been awarded with a prestigious Peabody Award for her visual album Lemonade. The Peabody is known as the ‘Pulitzer of radio’ and recognises excellence in the entertainment industry.
Organisers of the awards heaped praise on the singer saying that her latest album is a triumph of poetic innovation. They said ‘Lemonade draws from the prolific literary, musical, cinematic, and aesthetic sensibilities of black cultural producers to create a rich tapestry of poetic innovation.’
They went on to give Beyonce plaudits for the way in which the album is about real American women and also for the way it deals with race. ‘The audacity of its reach and fierceness of its vision challenges our cultural imagination, while crafting a stunning and sublime masterpiece about the lives of women of color and the bonds of friendship seldom seen or heard in American popular culture.’
