Gillan suggests Helen Mirren for new Doctor Who

Doctor Who star Karen Gillan has suggested that Helen Mirren should the next person to play the Time Lord. Peter Capaldi, who currently plays the Doctor, has filmed his last scenes and speculation if rife about who will take over the coveted part. The actor Kris Marshall is currently the favourite but many people think the role should finally go to a woman.

Gillan was speaking in an interview on This Morning when she suggested that Mirren would be the perfect actress to take over Capaldi. ‘I really would like to see Helen in the role actually, because so many people have questioned whether a woman can play the role. Of course, an actress can play the role! It’s not really bound by gender.’

The actress also spoke of her assurances that the BBC would make the right decision when it comes to casting the part. She also discussed going bald for her role in Guardians of the Galaxy and expressed her joy at once again having her hair back. She said ‘I’m so happy to have my hair back. People were calling me ‘sir’ way too often, like for real.’
