Ed Sheernan has deleted his Twitter account after GOT cameo

Singer Ed Sheeran has deleted his Twitter account after being subjected to a barrage of criticism for his cameo in the new series of Game of Thrones. While the pop star has not confirmed the reason for leaving social media – the timing is curious given his appearance in the hit series which aired on Sunday evening.

Sheeran guest starred in HBO’s most successful show ever playing a soldier – he also sang a song around the camp fire, something which hasn’t impressed fans of the show who were very vocal on social media. Last month, Sheernan told a British newspaper that he had come off the social media site because he couldn’t deal with the bullying.

In an interview with The Sun newspaper, he said ‘I can’t read it. I go on it and there’s nothing but people saying mean things.’ Adding, One comment ruins your day. But that’s why I’ve come off it.’ However, the singer seemed to contradict his earlier statement in an interview with Matt Lauer on the Today show, stating that he hadn’t come off social media but he just chooses not to read as much of it. ‘I haven’t quit anything. I’m just not reading anything, except Harry Potter.’

Despite the bashing he has received Sheeran is set to star in another series this fall. Recently Ed announced on Instagram that he will feature in several episodes of The Simpsons. ‘This year continues to be equally surreal and amazing, watch out for this one, me and Lisa have a whole thing going on.’
