Robert Pattinson is best known to the world for playing Edward Cullen in the Twilight franchise. However, in a revealing interview with Howard Stern, the actor has spoken out about his rise to fame and the perils of being a young actor in the public eye.
Speaking about his role as the Cullen, Pattinson said that nobody expected the film to be such a big success. He also revealed that he had to leave the country after the film’s premiere because of mounting obsession over the box office success of the film. But he almost lost his job in the film for not smiling enough. After looking miserable on camera, he said his agents prompted him to change his acting style.
‘They said you have to do the opposite of what you’re doing now or you’re going to be fired today…I came back after lunch and was like hey.’ He also revealed the difficulties forming personal relationships when you’re in the spotlight. He said ‘It’s one of the most frustrating things in the world…you kind of get stuck in this position where like people…you have to make these decisions, like whether you want to let the crazy people in.’
Before fame came calling it seems that Pattinson was a trouble maker in his younger years. He happily recounted the t story of getting excluded from school for selling porn magazines to Stern. ‘I’d sell them for a lot of money…I used to go in and take like one or two and put them in my bag…I was in my school uniform when I was doing it, so it was kind of risky. But, then at the end, I got so cocky that I would take the entire rack and I got caught.’
