Oprah Winfrey is one of the most powerful women in the world but even she struggles with her weight. In an interview with the New York Times, she opened up about the way dieting has changed over the years she has spent in the public eye.
However, after taking a 10% stake in the company Weight Watchers, many questioned why she took on that role. Winfrey has hit back at her critics by saying that it is all about health. ‘For your heart to pump, pump, pump, pump, it needs the least amount of weight possible to do that.’ The TV presenter said that at a certain point she gets high blood pressure and is at risk of diabetes.
She also talked about how there has been a shift in the way people think about weight over the years. Winfrey said it has transitioned from being all about lbs to being fit, healthy and confident. ‘This whole P.C. about accepting yourself as you are—you should, 100 percent.’
Speaking about Weight Watchers she said it’s ‘a mechanism to keep myself on the track that brings a level of consciousness and awareness to my eating. It actually is, for me, mindful eating, because the points are so ingrained now.’
