Meryl Streep says she is appaled by Weinstein claims as several stars slam the Hollywood producer

Despite referring to him as God in the past, Meryl Street has come out and publically slammed Harvey Weinstein over allegations of sexual assault. The Oscar-winning actress, who has worked with the producer several times in the past, said she is disgraced that she once supported him and his work. ‘The disgraceful news about Harvey Weinstein has appalled those of us whose work he championed, and those whose good and worthy causes he supported. The intrepid women who raised their voices to expose this abuse are our heroes.’

The actress went on to deny that everybody knew about his past behaviour. She vehemently denied that she knew anything of his assaults or the payoffs he has given women to keep quiet across the decades. ‘I did not know about his financial settlements with actresses and colleagues; I did not know about his having meetings in his hotel room, his bathroom, or other inappropriate, coercive acts.’

Streep is just one of a number of women who have now denounced any past relationships they had with the Hollywood heavyweight. Other notable faces to express their horror at the recent exposure include Brie Larson, Lena Dunham and Rose McGowan.

Weinstein was sacked from his company this morning after the other directors, one of which is his brother, decided that his position on the board was no longer tenable.
