Actress Rose McGowan has cancelled all her upcoming appearances following the revelations surrounding the Harvey Weinstein scandal. She was set to receive an award at the Tallgrass Film Festival on Thursday but she announced that she would not be attending on Wednesday night. The statement she would cancel ‘All upcoming public appearances due to compounding factors surrounding recent revelations in the Harvey Weinstein sexual harassment case.’
Organisers of the awards published a statement saying that while they were sad she couldn’t attend they understood and wished her the best. ‘While we’re disappointed that Rose cannot be here with us in person, we understand that her well being is the priority. We support her and our thoughts are with her.’
The creative director of the awards Lela Meadow-Conner also said that they would use this opportunity to celebrate women and use their platform to discuss important issues. She also announced that they would be putting together a special panel of women filmmakers to have a frank conversation about women in film.
The New York Times broke the allegations about producer Harvey Weinstein had sexually assaulted a number of women over the years. Claims of rape have since been levelled at Weinstein – he denies any claims of unwanted sex.
