Brett Ratner has announced that he is suing a woman who has accused him of rape on the social media site Facebook. E-News reported that Melanie Kohler posted a statement on her Facebook page around the 10th October claiming that Ratner raped her. She said that he ‘was a rapist on at least one night in Hollywood about 12 years ago’ adding that he ‘preyed on me as a drunk girl [and] forced himself upon me.’
The woman in question isn’t the only defendant seen on the documents. It also states that there are numerous ‘associates, co-actors, partners, officers, employees, agents and/or representatives of the named defendant whose true names and capacities are as yet unknown to plaintiff despite due diligence and inquiry.’
Ratner has vehemently denied all of the accusations made against him and describes the claims as ‘deliberately false and malicious accusations.’ In addition to the emotional distressed caused, his lawyer has also said he is suing on grounds of ‘injuries to his personal and professional reputations.’
The documents didn’t reveal that exact amount that Ratner was suing for but it did state that it would be in excess of $75,000 ‘the amount of controversy exceeds seventy-five thousand dollars ($75,000) exclusive of interest and costs.’ His lawyer was also strongly defending his client’s position. ‘I have represented Mr. Ratner for two decades, and no woman has ever made a claim against him for sexual misconduct or sexual harassment.’
