TV presenter Holly Willoughby broke down on television today after speaking to a campaigner for sepsis as she described losing her son to the disease. In the heart-breaking interview, the woman said that she was ‘so proud he chose me to be his mum.’
The woman in question is named Melissa and started a blog called A mother Without a Child after she lost her son to the disease which causes infection and attacks all the organs in the body. She said ‘I thought that must be rare, we didn’t know what it is. We saw it’s the UK’s second biggest killer. We were dumbfounded.’ She continued ‘I’m honoured to call him my son. I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve been able to achieve in his name. I don’t think there are many parents that can say that about their children.’
The chat affected Holly so much that she was unable to contain her emotions and wasn’t able to carry on with the next item prompting co-host Phillip Schofield to carry on with the next item alone. The much-loved presenter is known for getting emotional on the show as she has three young children of her own and sees things through a mother’s eyes.
