She is one of the most in-demand TV presenters in the word and it seems like even her husband to be couldn’t tie Mary Berry down. Speaking on Monday’s episode of Mary Berry Everyday the baking favourite revealed that her fiance had to propose three times before she said yes!
Mary said that she remembers the first proposal, she also said she remembers that her husband was drunk! She added ‘I think you had too much and I can remember telling you-you were drunk and thinking, ‘I’m not going to have anything to do with this man’.
In the end, Paul said that he could not go on like and told Mary that it was now or never. It seems like they made the right decision as the couple have now been married for over 50 years. As you might expect Mary revealed that she made her own wedding cake and that her dress cost just $10 back in 1966.
Mary is known and loved for her role on the Great British Bake Off but she decided to quit the program following the show’s move to Channel 4. Mel and Sue, the show’s presenters, also decided to stay loyal to the BBC and now move with the program. Paul Hollywood will be moving with the show as they welcome new hosts Sandi Toksvig, Prue Leith and Noel Fielding.
