Stars join together to raise money for victims of Hurricane Harvey

Stars from the world of Hollywood, music and television have come out to support the victims of Hurricane Harvey. Celebrities including Justin Beiber, George Clooney and Beyonce gathered together on Tuesday for  Hand in Hand: A Benefit for Hurricane Relief.

The event, which was broadcast across America, raised over $14 million in one hour. Apple donated $5 million and said that it would match any donations made by its employees. During the one hour show a host of singers including Blake Shelton and Usher preformed moving tributes to those affected by the disaster.

Beyonce gave a moving speech via video message where she said that natural disasters don’t discriminate. ‘Natural disasters don’t discriminate. They don’t see if you are an immigrant, black or white, Hispanic or Asian, Jewish or Muslim, wealthy or poor. It doesn’t matter if you are from Third World or River Oaks, we are all in this together.’

Selena  Gomez told viewers that if they were going to make it through this they were going to have to do it together. ‘If we are going to get through all the storms that confront us, that’s how we are going to do it: Together, hand in hand.’

Hurricane Harvey battered the Caribbean islands last week before making land fall in the United States earlier this week. It devastated the islands of Barbuda and the British Virgin Islands before batter the state of Florida.
