Ellen supports Oscar diversity

There was a great deal of tension surrounding this year’s Oscars in the wake of the diversity row. And it seems that two-time host, and popular television host, Ellen DeGeneres agrees that the Academy Awards needs to be more diverse.

Speaking at a recent interview to promote her new film, Find Dory (a sequel to the popular animation Finding Nemo) the TV star said that everybody, not just black people, needed to be represented in Hollywood. The point is particularly poignant given that Ellen herself is an out and proud lesbian. She said ‘there’s a planet full of people that aren’t white heterosexual. There’s a lot of people of colour, fat people, people that aren’t absolutely perfect.’

Ellen has hosted the awards twice, and the photo that she took while hosting back in 2015 became the most shared photo of all time. The selfie included stars such as Meryl Streep, Brad Pitt, Bradley Cooper and Julia Roberts.

The comedian and host has also spoken out about her political views, stating that she fully supports Hilary Clinton in the race to become the next President of the United States. Speaking of women having the top roles in office she said ‘there’s something to be said for that gender being in office rather than a man, but it’s really about the person that’s most qualified for the job, I think.’
