Tilda Swinton to be new Doctor Who?!

Ever since the actor Peter Capaldi announced that he would be stepping down for his role as Doctor Who in the smash hit TV series, rumours have circulated as to who will replace him. And now a very unusual candidate has been thrown into the mix – Hollywood actress Tilda Swinton. The actress who has starred in films such as The Chronicles of Narnia and We Need to Talk About Kevin is now the bookies favorite to take on the iconic role. She is ahead of former hotly tipped stars such as Olivia Coleman, who gained international fame in The Night Manager, and Ben Wishaw, who is most well-known for his roles in the James Bond franchise.

Though some might think the prospect of a female Doctor is controversial, Steven Moffat one of the show’s top producers backed the idea of giving the title role to a woman. He said ‘I think the next time might be a female Doctor. I don’t see why not.’

The speculation started as soon as Capaldi announced his departure from the show. Speaking on the radio he said ‘I feel it’s time to move on. One of the greatest privileges of being Doctor Who is to see the world at its best. This’ll be the end for me. I feel sad. I love Doctor Who. It’s a fantastic program to work on. I’ve never worked the same job for three years, and I feel like now is the right time to move on. I’ll still be the Doctor for a while.’
