Rebel Wilson put on weight to become famous

The world of Hollywood is known for it’s thin, beautiful people but it seems that having model looks doesn’t work for everybody, including Rebel Wilson. The Australian-born actress has revealed that she actually made a conscious decision to put on weight in a bid to get famous. However, she did admit that it was because she was going for the comedy roles rather than that of the leading lady. Rebel said ‘I was like: “Oh. That girl’s getting a lot of laughs, a lot easier than me. What is it?” Because I don’t think there’s much difference in talent.’

Rebel has also admitted in the past that she is naturally prone to putting on weight due to a hormone imbalance. Instead of trying to fight this predisposition to being a heavier girl she decided to take it in her stride and use it to her advantage. The Bridesmaid star said ‘I saw my size as being an advantage, whereas so many women see it as a disadvantage.’

Wilson made her London stage debut this week in the Frank Losser musical Guys and Dolls playing the leading role of Miss Adelaide. The decision to do a musical was to avoid been typecast as the funny woman in Hollywood. Rebel said of the decision ‘I wanted to mix things up. Things in movies are going so well, I’m getting offered such cool roles, but I wanted to diversify a little bit.’
