Nicky Hayden dies following bike crash

Nicky Hayden, the former MotoGP world champion, has died in hospital following a cycling crash in Italy last week. The statement released by the hospital said ‘The medical team has verified the death of the patient Nicholas Patrick Hayden, who has been undergoing care since last Wednesday 17 May in the intensive care unit of the Bufalini Hospital in Cesena following a very serious polytrauma which occurred the same day.’

The sports star suffered serious injuries to his head and chest after the collision which occurred last Wednesday and spent the past several days in intensive care unit hospital announced that the American had died early today. Hayden was out riding with his friends when he was involved in an incident with the Peugeot. It is thought that several of his family members had flown to Italy to hold a bedside vigil hoping that the spots that would make a full recovery. The writer is well known for winning the 2006 MotoGP against Valentina Rossi which put an end to the Italians five-year reign in the sport.
