Prince Harry: ‘No royal wants to be king’

In an extraordinary interview Prince Harry as claimed that no member of the Royal Family wants the job of King or Queen. The 32-year-old was giving an interview to Newsweek magazine when he made the shocking claim. He was also critical of the decision which saw him walking behind his mother’s coffin in the spotlight of the world’s media. He said ‘No child should be asked to do that.’

When asked about the prospect of his father, brother and nephew taking the throne, Harry insisted that none of them actually wanted the top job. ‘Is there any one of the Royal Family who wants to be king or queen? I don’t think so, but we will carry out our duties at the right time.’

The Prince went on to say that the younger members of the family won’t attempt to emulate the Queen, but rather carve out a new role for the Royal Family. ‘The monarchy is a force for good and we want to carry on the positive atmosphere that the Queen has achieved for over 60 years, but we won’t be trying to fill her boots. We are involved in modernising the British monarchy. We are not doing this for ourselves but for the greater good of the people.’
