Jennifer Lawrence has opened up about Donald Trump, climate change and the gender pay gap in Hollywood in a candid interview with Channel 4 News. The actress was being interviewed for her new film, Mother, when she made the comments. The film, which has so far had a mixed response from critics, opens with the line ‘It’s a mad time to be alive’, something which rings true for Lawrence in this era of turbulent politics.
‘This new language that’s forming. I don’t even recognize it. It’s also scary to know that climate change is due to human activity and we continue to ignore it, and the only voice that we really have is through voting.’
Some have called out the actress for seemingly suggesting that there is a link between politics and mother nature’s rage. ‘And we voted, and it was really startling. You’re watching these hurricanes now and it’s hard, especially while promoting this movie, not to feel Mother Nature’s rage or wrath.’ She added that she did not find Trump – knowing exactly what he is ‘I don’t find him confusing. I think I know exactly what he is.’
When address the issue of the gender pay gap, Lawrence said that she is fortunate and that money is not her problem – her gripe is equality. ‘I wasn’t upset that I only got this many millions for a movie. That’s ridiculous. I was angry about the unfairness and inequality.’
