Jim Carrey set to return to televison for new Showtime Series

It’s 23 years since he has appeared on television but Jim Carrey is finally set to make his comeback to the small screen. The actor, who has starred in a string of Hollywood movies, will star in Showtime’s new comedy, Kidding.

The series will reunite Carrey with the director Michel Gondry who has last worked with on Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Many people cite Eternal Sunshine as the actor’s best role to date and are incredibly excited about the new collaboration between the pair.

The new series will follow Carrey’s character Jeff, a popular icon of children’s television, as he life begins to fall apart around him. The official tag line of the series reads ‘The result: a kind man in a cruel world faces a slow leak of sanity as hilarious as it is heartbreaking.’

David Nevins, the president of Showtime, spoke of his excitement at having the actor on board for their new project. He said ‘No one inhabits a character like Jim Carrey, and this role – which is like watching Humpty Dumpty after the fall – is going to leave television audiences wondering how they went so long without him.’

Carrey will also be a producer on the show along with director Michel Gondry and actor Jason Bateman. Jim is also currently working on another project for the network – I’m Dying Up Here on which he is the executive producer.
