The Handmaid’s Tale dominates at the Emmy Awards

The Handmaid’s Tale dominated the Emmys last night winning both best actress and the coveted best drama prize – the first time a streaming service has won the award. The harrowing series, based on a book by Canadian author Margaret Atwood, has been a hit with viewers and it tells the story of a dark, dystopian world where women are forced to bear children for infertile families.

It wasn’t only the collective series and actress prize for Elizabeth Moss that the Handmaid’s Tale took home on the night. The show took home a string of other awards including outstanding writing for Bruce Miller.

moss has claimed that she ‘blacked out’ after her name was announced as the winner of outstanding actress in a drama. Speaking to E she said ‘I really did. I don’t really remember much of it. I’ve never experienced them actually calling my name, so it was a very strange feeling.’

The actress has been nominated several times before for her role in Mad Men but has never before won. She said it was incredible to finally win an award and described the moment as an ‘out of body experience.’ She finished acceptance speech by thanking her mom who she referred to as ‘f–king badass’.
