It’s the highlight of the fashion calendar and last night’s Met Gala didn’t disappoint when it came to extravagant outfits. The event which raises money for the Metropolitan Museum of Art saw the great and good of the entertainment world take to the red carpet.
Appearing in a military-style dress, Madonna made a political stand against the number of wars which are occurring in the word. Kim Kardashian was also in attendance and looked stunning in a white Vivienne Westwood dress. Many noted that Kim didn’t stick to the theme – but since when have the Kardashians played by the rules? Rihanna also wowed the crowds with her petal-inspired, Comme des Garcon outfit that resembled more of a costume than a traditional dress.
The inspiration for this year was designer Rei Kawakubo. The Japanese-born artist is known for her extravagant clothing designs which take traditional fashion statements and fuse them with a more opulent artistic flair. Pop star Katy Perry also wore a striking outfit that consisted of a red veil, mirrored headset and the word ‘witness’ emblazoned across her head. It wasn’t all about the women, Mr Robot actor Rami Malek appeared in a bright red Dior suit.
