Dwayne Johnson has hit back at critics who have slammed the remake of Baywatch. The star who plays the role of Mitch Buchannan, made famous by Davis Hasselhoff in the TV series, took to social media to air his thoughts on the films frosty reception. Johnson said ‘Oh boy, critics had their venom & knives ready. Fans LOVE the movie. Huge positive scores. Big disconnect w/ critics & people. #Baywatch.’
Dwayne was particularly critical of one reviewer who he said laughed a lot in the screening bit choose to pan the film in his review. ‘Bold move from this critic who watched #Baywatch w/ other critics who laughed their ass off, but then they decide to trash it publicly.’ He then took it upon himself to share some of the more positive reviews with his followers on social media.
The movie was a flop at the box office over its opening weekend and is expected to take around $22 million in total, In comparison, the new Pirates of the Caribbean film is looking to earn around $75 million. The film stars Johnson and Zac Effron and documents the antics of the Emerald Bay lifeguards. The original TV show starred PalAma Anderson and was a huge hit in the 1990s. A spokesperson for Paramount who are distributing the film said ‘I think reviews did hurt the film, which scored great in test screenings.’
