Kathy Griffin forced to apologise after beheading Trump photo

Comedian Kathy Griffin has apologised on social media after she published a photo of herself holding Donald Trump’s head in a mock execution. She said on her Twitter ‘I am sorry. I went too far. I was wrong.’ The controversial star has received a barrage of criticism from all sides of the political divide – including from Chelsea Clinton who is the daughter of former President Bill and 2016 Democratic candidate Hillary.

Anderson Cooper, a friend and colleague of Griffin’s, said that he found the video appalling and described the photo as ‘clearly disgusting and completely inappropriate.’ The Secret Service also posted a message on Twitter suggesting that they are investigating Griffin over her photo. ‘SecretService has a robust protective intelligence division that monitors open source reporting & social media to evaluate threats. Threats made against @SecretService protectees receive the highest priority of all of our investigations. #ProtectionNeverRests.’

A CNN spokesperson said that they are looking into whether Griffin will continue to be the host of their New Year’s Eve coverage. The network said ‘We found what she did disgusting and offensive. We are pleased to see she has apologised and asked that the photos be taken down. We are evaluating New Year’s Eve and have made no decisions at this point.’
