Beyonce and Adele lead VMA nominations

She is the ultimate queen of pop and so it’s no surprise that this year’s MTV Video Music Awards are dominated by Beyonce. The pop sensation, who is currently on a huge tour, received 11 nominations for her concept album Lemonade.

It’s no surprise that Beyonce has been recognised for her work, it has been widely praised for its innovative style and unique approach to making a music video. In the hour long video Beyonce is seen dealing with infidelity in the context of African-American culture.

The All the Single Ladies singer is closely followed in the nominations stake by British singer Adele who is up for 8 awards this year, seven of which are for the mega-hit Hello, which was the first single to be released off her new album 25.

In a controversial move, Kanye’s Famous video is also up for two nominations. The video has been widely criticised by many celebrities due to the explicit nature of the video. It features what appears to be several high-profile figures naked in bed, including Taylor Swift and Donald Trump.

Swift herself appears to have been snubbed by MTV and has not up for any awards, despite being one of the biggest pop stars in the world. The results will be announced at a star-studded ceremony to be held at Madison Square Garden on August 28th.
