A former contestant on The Voice USA has been shot dead after her concert in Orlando. Christina Grimmie, 22, was meeting her fans after the performance when around 5 shots were heard. Her death was confirmed by her publicist at around 2.45 AM. An official statement read ‘It is with a heavy heart that we can confirm that Christina has passed and went home to be with the Lord. She was shot at her show in Orlando and, unfortunately, didn’t survive the gunshot wounds.’ The family have asked for privacy at this difficult time.
Local police have confirmed that the attack was targeted and that the perpetrator of the crime arrives at the concert heavily armed with intent. He also travelled from another city to seek out his victim. The attack happened at around 10.30 PM when Christina was signing autographs for fans outside the stage door, the singer’s brother tried to come her defence but the attempts to save her life were unsuccessful.
So far no motive for the killing has been confirmed but Police are looking into the killer’s history to see if they can find a link to Grimmie. The event went viral on social media with #PrayForChristina trending on Twitter. The hash tag was changed to #RIPChristina when the singer’s death was announced.
