Kathy Griffin fired by CNN over Trump tweet

The US broadcaster CNN have dropped comedian Kathy Griffin after she poster a picture of herself with a mock decapitated head of President Donald Trump. The network tweeted ‘CNN has terminated our agreement with Kathy Griffin to appear on our New Year’s Eve program.’ The sacking comes despite Griffin apologising for her actions which she admitted were wrong.

The President himself also had something to say on the matter. He tweeted ‘Kathy Griffin should be ashamed of herself. Adding ‘My children, especially my 11-year-old son, Barron, are having a hard time with this.’ Griffin posted a video online begging for forgiveness – admitting that the photo she posted had been in incredibly bad taste.

Chelsea Clinton, daughter of Bill and Hillary, was also critical of the stunt. ‘It is never funny to joke about killing a president.’ The First Lady also expressed concern for the mental health of an individual who would do something like this. Mitt Romney, the former Republican candidate for President waded into the row. ‘Our politics have become too base, too low, & too vulgar, but Kathy Griffin’s post descends into an even more repugnant & vile territory.’

After posting the picture on her Twitter account on Tuesday, Griffin was quick to condemn the use of violence. ‘OBVIOUSLY, I do not condone ANY violence by my fans or others to anyone, ever! I’m merely mocking the Mocker in Chief.’
